2023 Jewellery Trends I’m Loving

Jewellery is a form of expression, which is why you should always do your own thing and wear what makes you feel good. But I always keep my eye on the trends, even if what’s “in” isn’t my thing.

Keep reading for a breakdown of the top jewellery trends for 2023 that caught my eye.

Shoulder Dusters

It’s mind-blowing how many ways jewellery designers can decorate a part of the body as small as the ear. From the simplest stud to a daring hoop, there’s no end to how inventive you can get.

One of my favourite jewellery trends of 2023 so far is the shoulder duster earring. The term popped up in the Art Deco era - but back then, they were referring to shorter pendant earrings that didn’t quite reach the shoulder. The style has since lengthened.

Today, we see shoulder duster earring designs being taken in all sorts of directions. Beads, pearls, turquoise, chains - there are countless ways to get creative with a shoulder duster. Something they all have in common, though, is they all stand out.

For my nephrite jade drop earrings, I chose to highlight the one-of-a-kind emerald-green gemstone.

Personalised Jewellery

All jewellery is personal by nature. It can remind you of a person, time or experience - or simply be something you cherish for the way it makes you look and feel.

However, personalised jewellery conveys another level of intimacy, so it’s no wonder it’s so popular right now. Initial jewellery and pieces engraved with names, dates or messages are all the rage.

Personalised cuffs, pendants and necklaces are trending, which makes sense - they offer a bit more space for inscription. But done well, any piece of jewellery can be personalised.

I recently made a pair of personalised hoop earrings for a friend who was battling cancer - I love designing custom orders that make a statement and elevate the piece’s importance for the wearer.

Ocean Jewellery

It’s the perfect style for summer, or any season if you love the seaside. Ocean-themed jewellery is hot this year and shouldn’t ever go out of style. It’s utterly peaceful.

The ocean and beach offer a constant flow of natural inspiration for jewellery designers, which is why there are so many exquisite pieces out there.

Ocean jewellery plays on shapes - seashells, starfish, waves or anything coastal. It’s also the perfect style for the blue-greens of turquoise and sea glass.

I was lucky to find two stones that somehow encapsulate the energy of the beach and ocean, so I turned them into chalcedony swing earrings.

Cuffs

Another classic is back.

The cuff bracelet is one of those jewellery staples that never falls off the grid completely -  and they’ve got an interesting history. They were worn by the Ancient Egyptians and Romans, thrived in the Art Deco era and had a revival in the 1970s.

Cuff bracelet styles are wide-ranging, but this year many people are opting for chunky and bold. But that’s not the rule. Sleek, simple cuffs are also in fashion and gemstone cuffs are always nice to have in your collection.
